Fifteen
âSo, tell me, what kind of dreams have you been experiencing?â Noah asked me as I served him a glass of Merlot.
âWell, itâs kind of a long story,â I began slowly. I was nervous about relaying them to a perfect stranger. My dreams have always felt so intimate. âIâve had these dreams my entire life. I donât think I have time to discuss them now. How did you find me, anyway?â
âOh, call it a gift.â He smiled wickedly. âIt is slow tonight. I bet your boss will grant you a break.â
After about fifteen minutes of working, I found time to sit with Noah. I was regretting my decision to volunteer for this. I sat in the chair across from his.
âOh,â he said. âI was beginning to wonder.â He ran his hand through his hair. âIâm glad that you can join me. Now, these dreamsâ¦â
âI always dream about this girl with blonde hair and the brightest green eyes that I have ever seen. Itâs like her soul is shining through them or something. She is beautiful. The weird thing is that, somehow, I know sheâs supposed to be me. I donât know her name. She is always with a guy. Heâs tall, dark hair and muscles. I very rarely see his face. Itâs just a dark spot where his face should be.â Noah just nodded his head as I spoke. âThough, sometimes I have seen his face. He looks an awful lot like this guy, Demien, which Iâve recently met. Itâs so strange. I canât quite explain it.â
Noah choked on his Merlot.
âAre you okay?â I asked, handing him a napkin.
âYeah, it just went down wrong,â he said between uncontrolled coughing. âSo Demien? What does this Demien look like?â
âHe has these freaky eyes that are clear gray but sometimes turn black or even amber. I think Iâve seen sparks of purple and orange. His eyes are like a freaking sunset sometimes. I guess it depends on his mood. He probably has colored contacts like the rest of these lame people âround here.â I threw in that last assumption just so I didnât sound so dumb.
âProbably,â Noah agreed, laughing. âWhat else can you say about this guy?â
âHe is, without a doubt, well built, dark hair, high cheekbones, tall. His skin is wonderful.â I allowed my thoughts to wonder a little.
âI see. âHis skin is wonderfulâ, Iâm not sure what that means but Iâll take your word for it.â
âThatâs my description of him. Except for his eyes, he doesnât sound like anything unique, I guess. He is unique, though.â
âHow do you feel about him?â
âTo be honest, I really donât like him,â I cleared my throat to keep from adding how much I absolutely love him.
Noah kept nodding his head.
I sat across from Noah staring off into the distance. I wasnât sure what he wanted to talk about. There were so many topics that I didnât want to discuss. I pondered on what I did feel comfortable talking about.
âWhat do you guys do in your dreams?â he said, interrupting my thoughts.
